The world’s most ancient seller of records isn’t in New York or London but Welsh capital, Cardiff. Spillers was founded in 1894 to sell wax cylinders and gramophones, and later traded at the same address in the Hayes for 60 years or so until 2010. They now have a home in the nearby Morgan Arcade where they continue to be a favourite with bands including the Manic Street Preachers and the Super Furry Animals.
Cardiff is only two hours by train from London and is the perfect place to discover the rest of Wales, a country with a rich and varied musical culture ranging from the moving sound of traditional male voice choirs to the legendary Tom Jones.
